The short version is four things. The long version is below it, in plain English — and if anything is a question mark for you, call anyway; there's usually a way.
Every driver is at least 21 with a valid licence and a clean driving record — no major moving violations, DUI convictions, or similar. Some cars carry a higher minimum age. All renters are physically present at the start; we hand keys only to the person driving.
A personal auto policy in good standing. New York customers need liability coverage; everyone else needs full coverage (liability, comprehensive, collision). It doesn’t matter what you drive personally — your carrier covers damage to our cars. We verify with your insurer before delivery.
Typically $2,500, though in certain circumstances it can be higher. Held on your card — an authorization on a credit card; charged and refunded at return for rentals of seven days or more, or when you pay by debit — and released once the car is back.
Rental agreement and licence check at delivery or pickup — about ten minutes. Additional drivers sign on then too, at no charge, under the same requirements.
Requirements & age limit
Vehicles are available to drivers 21 and older with clean driving records — no major moving violations, DUI convictions, or similar infractions. Some cars carry a higher minimum age; we’ll tell you when you book. Unfortunately, we cannot rent any vehicle to drivers under 21. If you don’t meet the requirements — or simply don’t want to drive — chauffeur service is available on many of the cars at an additional cost; call and ask.
All renters must be physically present at the start of the rental: we don’t allow third parties to pick up vehicles, and our employees must physically hand the keys to the person who will be driving.
International renters
Vehicles are available to international visitors with a valid passport and driver’s licence from their home country. We can arrange insurance coverage for international visitors renting for a minimum of two days. International renters without their own insurance coverage are subject to a higher security deposit, depending on the vehicle.
Additional drivers
Additional drivers may be listed on your rental agreement at no additional charge. Each additional driver must be present at the time of delivery, must submit a driver’s licence in advance, and is subject to the same age, licensing and driving-record requirements as the primary renter. Anyone not on the agreement is not covered — no exceptions.
Driving record (MVR)
We reserve the right to run an MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) report on all renters prior to the start of the rental to verify a valid driver’s licence.
Insurance
All renters must carry some form of insurance to cover damage to the vehicle in the event of an accident. The easiest option: a policy on a personal vehicle you own or lease — we’ll verify with your insurer that it’s active. New York customers are required to maintain only liability insurance; customers from any other state need full coverage (liability, comprehensive and collision). It doesn’t matter what you drive personally — as long as your insurance is in good standing, your carrier covers damage to our cars. Think of it as if you caused an accident with someone else’s Ferrari on the road: your insurance covers it even if you’re driving a VW.
Have an American Express card? Their Premium Car Rental Protection program covers your rental with us, can be purchased alongside your regular policy, and makes a great extra layer of protection. If neither applies, third-party damage-waiver products exist — call and we’ll walk you through the options.
Damage deposit
All renters leave a damage deposit by credit card authorization, cashier’s check, or cash. Any damage found on return is billed against it. The amount varies with the vehicle and your insurance — typically $2,500, though in certain circumstances (an international renter without US coverage, for example) it can be higher. Card deposits are held as an authorization on a credit card. For rentals of seven days or more — an authorization can’t be held that long — and for debit or prepaid cards, the deposit is charged and refunded at return. Either way it’s released following the rental, once the car is inspected.
Delivery & pickup
Pick up and return at our Teaneck facility, or have the car delivered to your home, office, hotel, airport, or anywhere else. We store your own car at our facility at no charge while you’re out in ours. Door-to-door delivery is available for a fee that depends on distance.
All pickup and delivery arrangements must be confirmed at least 24 hours in advance to guarantee on-time service. Changes with less than 24 hours’ notice may incur an additional transportation fee. In other words: we’ll do our absolute best to get you the car when and where you want it — but if you change your mind after we’ve scheduled our drivers, we may charge you for it.
Return times
We’re flexible about return times — nobody’s counting a two-day rental to exactly 48 hours. But once a return appointment is made, we need to stick to it. There’s a one-hour grace period on your scheduled return, after which additional daily rental fees may apply. Our delivery team works long hours seven days a week; one missed appointment throws off the whole schedule.
Mileage
Daily and weekend rentals include 100 free miles per day; weekly rentals include 700 free miles, unless stated otherwise. Additional miles are billed at the stated per-mile rate on each car’s page. Vehicles driven more than double the allotted mileage are subject to an additional surcharge for excess wear and tear.
Fuel, tolls & surcharge
Cars are delivered with a full tank and can be returned full, empty, or anywhere in between. When you do fill up, use Premium grade (93+ octane) only; there’s a $350 fee for filling with a lesser grade. And yes, we’ll know. A flat $95 fuel fee per rental (regardless of duration) covers the fuel and the MVR report verifying your spotless driving record.
Our cars no longer carry EZ-Pass tags — tolls are billed by licence plate. A $15 toll fee applies to every rental, even if you bring your own tag, in case it misses a toll. Actual tolls, tickets and violations incurred during your rental are tracked and charged back to you.
Driving area
Vehicles may not be driven outside New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Washington D.C., Virginia, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont or New Hampshire without prior written approval.
Tickets
The renter is responsible for all parking, traffic, speeding and other tickets or violations issued while the vehicle is rented, and must pay any fees, penalties, towing charges or impound costs.
Prohibited uses
Our cars may not be used: by anyone unlicensed, suspended or restricted; for any illegal purpose; to carry persons or property for hire; to push or tow anything (you wouldn’t, would you?); to exceed posted speed limits; in any speed test, contest, race, rally or demonstration, or on or near any racetrack or road course — we’re serious about this one: no insurance company on earth covers a car on track, which puts us both on the hook for a lot of money; to teach anyone to drive; or on any unpaved surface. Violations end the rental, and we retrieve the car.
Payment methods
Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover are the preferred payment methods for rentals and deposits. Cashier’s checks or cash may be accepted if pre-arranged. Personal and business checks are not accepted, because of the absolutely massive amount of fraud that seems to travel with them.
Cancellation policy
When you reserve, your card is charged immediately for the full rental. We run a limited fleet on a tight schedule, so: there’s a 24-hour grace period after booking to change or cancel (unless the rental is within 7 days). After that, the cancellation fee is 50% of the rental or $500, whichever is greater. Cancel or reschedule less than 7 days out — or no-show — and the fee is 100%.
Dream Car Tour reservations are non-refundable regardless of booking time, but fully transferable — if you can’t make it, we’ll gladly put a replacement driver in your spot.
Please understand there are no exceptions. We don’t mean to sound heartless, but you’d be amazed at the number of last-minute family emergencies, sick pets and falling skies we hear about. One gentleman’s father has passed away three times in a single year. Bad karma.
Weather policy
We can’t control the weather — as much as we’ve tried. Per the cancellation policy above, we can’t offer refunds or rescheduling because the skies won’t play nice. But if a weather condition makes driving genuinely dangerous — snow, ice, hurricane — and the car stays parked that day, we may, at our discretion, extend your rental or credit a future one. Rent Friday through Sunday, snow lands Sunday, car never leaves the garage? You may be able to keep it through Monday at no charge. Questions on this one — just call, and we’ll work with you.
Refunds
We don’t offer refunds on rentals or gift certificates. Our goal is total satisfaction, though, so in certain situations (weather, above) we may offer credit for additional rental days — solely at our discretion. In the event of an unforeseen mechanical failure before or during a rental, we’ll make every effort to repair or replace your car with a similar or better model at no additional cost to you.
The Dream Car Tour
The tour runs on the same requirements as a rental: every driver is 21 or older with a valid licence and a clean record, and carries their own valid auto insurance. A $1,500 security deposit per driver is held on the card and released after the tour.
One spot is one booking for up to two people — a driver and a guest — at $1,195. Tour dates are fixed and reservations are non-refundable regardless of when you book, but fully transferable: if you can’t make it, name a replacement driver. Gift certificates are non-refundable too; the recipient schedules with us when they’re ready.
Groups of four or more drivers can book a private tour on a date of their own; those are quoted per group.
Discounts
Discounts and special incentives can’t be combined or stacked unless explicitly indicated. Pick the bigger one and enjoy.
