Prom is one of the busiest stretches of the year at Gotham Dream Cars™. Most families call wanting the same evening: a Lamborghini or a Ferrari outside the house when the photographs start, and the same car pulling up at the venue an hour later. We can do both. What we can’t do is give the keys to anyone under 21, and it’s better to say that here than on the phone.
Who drives
Every driver of our cars is 21 or over, licensed with a clean record, insured on their own policy and named on the rental agreement. Some cars need an older driver. Nobody else is covered at the wheel, and prom night is no exception. That leaves two ways to do it. A parent or guardian rents the car and drives the couple, exactly as they would on any other rental. Or our driver takes it, in plain dark clothes, for an additional cost. In Manhattan our driver is often the easier answer: the drop-off is quick, nobody has to park a supercar near the venue on a Friday night, and the parents get their evening back.
The photographs come first
For a lot of families the pictures are the main event: the couple on the front steps, the friends, the grandparents, the car at the curb. So we plan backwards from them. The car is in place before the first phone comes out and stays while the group is photographed, then it goes to the venue. If the pictures are the whole point, book a show and display car instead. We deliver it, one of our team stays beside it, nobody drives it, and it leaves when the photographs are done. That route is priced per inquiry, and it suits a big group better than any two-seater.
Two seats, honestly
Almost everything in the fleet seats two, which means one couple per car. For two couples, the Bentley Flying Spur has a proper back seat; for the whole group, the Cadillac Escalade ESV. A plan we see a lot is two cars: the Huracán at the house for the photographs, the bigger car for the ride. Either one can be driven by a parent or guardian on the agreement, or by our driver.
What it costs, and what’s included
A prom booking is an ordinary rental with the evening planned around it. It is priced by the day, not by the hour, so a photo session that runs long doesn’t change the rental price. The deposit and the requirements are the same as for any rental. Delivery to the house is priced from the address when you book, and our driver is quoted separately. After the drop-off the car either comes back to us or waits for a second pickup at the end of the night: tell us which when you call.
When to call
As soon as the date is fixed. Around New York, prom runs from April into June, and on the busiest Fridays the open-top cars go first. We deliver across the five boroughs, Long Island and Westchester from our garage in Teaneck; more on that in renting in New York. If the date is less than a month away, call rather than filling in a form. A person answers and can tell you what’s free.
The open-top cars on the big weekends go first. Call with the date and we'll tell you what's still free.
Priced by the day like any rental, with the evening planned around it. Delivery is priced from your address at checkout; our driver is quoted separately.
The prom shortlist
All 12 cars →Photographs only, nobody drives
A car staged outside the house for the pre-prom pictures, with one of our team beside it the whole time. Good for a big group; priced per inquiry.
Prom questions
The age rule comes first, so it's first here too.
Can my teenager drive the car to prom?
No. Every driver of our cars is 21 or over, holds a valid licence with a clean record, carries their own insurance and is named on the rental agreement, and some cars need an older driver. Nobody else is covered behind the wheel. So a parent or guardian drives, or our driver does, for an additional cost.
What does the evening look like?
The car is at the house before the photographs begin, then heads to the venue with whoever is driving. Underneath it is a normal rental: priced by the day, with the same deposit and requirements, and delivery priced from your address when you book. Tell us whether the car comes home after the drop-off or waits for a second pickup at the end of the night.
We're a group of four. What works?
Most of the fleet seats two, so it's one couple per car. The Bentley Flying Spur takes two couples, and the Cadillac Escalade ESV takes a bigger group. Plenty of families book both: the Lamborghini for the photographs, the bigger car for the ride.
Can we have the car just for the pictures?
Yes. We bring it as a show and display car: delivered, with one of our team beside it while everyone takes their photographs, and nobody drives it. Those bookings are priced per inquiry, with delivery itemized in the quote.
How early should we book?
As soon as the date is set. Around New York, prom runs from April into June, and on the busiest weekends the open-top cars go first. If the date is less than a month away, call rather than filling in a form.
